What are permanent cosmetics?
Fundamentally, Permanent cosmetics are a form of tattooing. The main similarity between Permanent Cosmetics and contemporary tattooing is the underlying process which involves applying pigment to the skin with needles. The skin then heals leaving the pigment residue where you placed it….. It’s as simple as that.
Permanent Cosmetics is most definitely not the same as a tattoo and the end result is very different. Permanent cosmetics are intended to be natural looking enhancements.
Using the pigment and needle or blade, pigment is placed into the upper layers of the skin and is specifically designed to fade within time. Some factors which assist Permanent cosmetics fade are body chemistry, skin cellular turn over rejuvenation etc. Also some anti- ageing products and exposure to sunlight.
Looking after your Permanent makeup and keeping on top of `top up’s’ will ensure your treatment to last longer and the pigment colour/ retention to remain strong.
How long does it last for?
Semi-Permanent makeup is semi-permanent in that you will always have makeup on your skin, however over time you will notice a gradual softening and fading of colour each year. Colour enhancement `top ups’ are recommended for those who want to keep there permanent makeup looking fresh as possible generally every 12-18 months and 9-12 months for microblading.
Does it Hurt?
There is little discomfort expected during the treatment, clients describe as a scratching sensation, saying that some areas are more sensitive than others. Topical anaesthetics are applied to the area before and during the treatment to keep the client comfortable.
What is the Healing Process?
Most clients can immediately return to work and continue with their daily activities following the treatment without discomfort or embarrassment. Some clients may slightly swell after the treatment which usually goes down within an hour or so.
For approximately 5-7 days following the treatment your skin will produce small scabs which will then come away from the skin, leaving the healed pigment colour. All pigment colours will fade 40% once healed from the initial pigment immediately after the treatment.
Healing balm is given to each client to apply during the 7 day healing process.
How long does it take?
Treatment usually takes around 2 hours. This includes consultation, paperwork, choosing pigment colour, numbing time, drawing with pencil, and the actual treatment. We require a patch test at least 24 hours before the treatment.
